eNews Leadership Update | Oct. 2, 2026

As we transition into fall, many healthcare and professional organizations enter one of the most critical seasons of the year. For healthcare systems, this is a time to prepare for seasonal patient volume increases while finalizing strategic plans and priorities for the year ahead. It is also a time to engage leaders in advancing the broader priorities that will shape the future of our profession and the communities we serve.
In recent weeks, I have seen many of you sharing updates from leadership retreats, strategic planning sessions and visioning meetings. Across the country, nurse leaders are bringing teams together to address today's challenges, identify opportunities and chart a course for the future. Your commitment to thoughtful leadership and organizational excellence continues to inspire me.
At AONL, we are engaged in our own annual planning efforts as we work to advance our mission and vision through the strategic priorities we shared earlier this year:
- Lead, inspire and support the healthcare workforce
- Improve health through advocacy
- Advance nursing leadership
One of the most meaningful ways we achieve these priorities is through the engagement and expertise of our members. That is why I encourage you to consider serving in one of AONL's member-led groups, committees, task forces or other volunteer opportunities.
Last week, we launched our Call for Volunteers. If you are interested in contributing your knowledge, perspective and leadership to AONL's work, I encourage you to submit your application by October 7.
Our team is committed to placing as many volunteers as possible in roles where they can make a meaningful impact, and we hope those selected will embrace the opportunity with enthusiasm and dedication. The success of our committees, task forces and member-led groups depends on the active participation of every volunteer. If circumstances change and you are no longer able to serve, we ask that you communicate with the group's chair so that we can continue to effectively support the work at hand.
I recognize the many demands on your time and the significant responsibilities you already carry as nurse leaders. Your willingness to raise your hand, share your expertise and invest in the future of our profession is not something we take for granted. For that, I am deeply grateful.
Thank you for your commitment to AONL and for considering this opportunity to contribute. Together, we will continue to strengthen nursing leadership, advocate for healthier communities and support the workforce that is essential to exceptional patient care.
This is your professional organization, and our success is built on what we accomplish together.
