Letter from the Editor: Bringing the Information You Need Closer to You

When I stepped into the Managing Editor, Professional Practice role at AONL in July 2026, I began with a simple question: How can we make the information we share with you more timely, relevant and useful in your work as a nurse leader?
Nursing leadership spans an extraordinary range of responsibilities, settings and specialties. The challenges facing a nurse leader in ambulatory care may look different from those of a leader in an academic medical center, public health organization, industry, academia, or critical access facility. At the same time, issues such as quality and safety, artificial intelligence, workforce, advocacy and population health increasingly cross traditional boundaries.
Our goal for AONL eNews is to reflect that breadth while making it easier for you to find what matters to you. We want eNews to bring you the most current, useful information when and where you need it, helping you translate emerging ideas, evidence and developments into leadership practice.
Since July, we added Letters from Leadership as a milestone toward that goal, creating another channel for AONL leaders to communicate directly with members and strengthening transparency around the issues and priorities shaping our association and profession.
We are also intentionally broadening the range of content selected for eNews. You will see perspectives and resources spanning public health, quality and safety, acute care, AI and technology, ambulatory care, academia and population health, as well as service lines such as maternal-child health, surgical services and oncology. Advocacy will remain an important part of the mix, connecting nurse leaders with developments that affect their organizations, communities and the profession.

Get involved: Bring your voice to AONL publications
You and your colleagues generate some of the most valuable insights in nursing leadership every day within your organizations.
Are you implementing a new care model? Using AI or technology to solve a leadership or operational challenge? Improving quality, safety or workforce outcomes? Building an academic-practice partnership? Testing an innovative approach in ambulatory care, population health or a clinical service line?
I invite you to share an abstract describing the work you and your colleagues are doing. Your experience may provide an idea, solution or lesson that another nurse leader can adapt in their own organization. Your abstract could open the door to publishing with AONL—an opportunity to share your insights and inspire fellow nurse leaders.

Help shape the future of eNews: Share your priorities
Your leadership priorities help shape the information AONL delivers. Complete our brief eNews poll to tell us which insights support your strategic decisions, how you want us to organize content and when and where you prefer to receive it. Your responses will guide improvements that make eNews more relevant to your nursing leadership practice and the challenges you lead through every day. The survey will remain open until November 15, 2026.
Together, we can make AONL's publications a space to learn from one another, discover practical ideas and explore opportunities to publish your work. We invite you to bring your voice and experience to this shared effort to advance nursing leadership.
