Nurse Leader article explores CNO well-being

Secondary trauma and leadership fatigue contribute to CNO burnout, says an article published in the Nurse Leader June issue. The authors call for studies to examine how to meet the unique needs of CNO well-being and mitigate secondary trauma and leadership fatigue. They suggest interventions enabling CNOs to connect with peers with similar needs and experiences. The study ─ one of the first to examine CNO well-being and burnout ─ is based on a survey with a 15% response rate of 106 nurses belonging to the Vizient Member Networks CNE Network. While CNOs feel comfortable advocating for patient care, they do not feel as strongly that “their voice is heard, acknowledged or influences decision-making.” The study found career intention and tenure are positively associated with resilience.
