Study: CNO leadership development program improves skills

AONL member Joyce Batcheller, DNP, RN, credited a CNO leadership development program with enhancing participants’ leadership skills and encouraging them to attain progressive leadership roles and expand their professional networks, a December Journal of Nursing Administration article found. Batcheller, president of the Nurses Legacy Institute and an adjunct professor at Texas Tech University’s School of Nursing in Lubbock, surveyed more than 400 executive nurse leaders who participated in the program from 2014 to 2022. Respondents said they applied strategies they learned to communicate more effectively with other C-suite executives (75%), developed strategic plans to improve organizational effectiveness (80%) and received promotions within nursing (64%). More than 90% said the program significantly influenced their development. Participants desired continuing professional development and a community beyond their organizations.
