Underwood wins race for Illinois house seat

Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., is projected to win reelection to represent Illinois’s 14th Congressional District. An active member of the House Nursing Caucas, she currently serves on the Committee on Education and Labor, the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the Committee on Homeland Security. Underwood used her nursing education as a special advisor to President Obama, assisting with the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Underwood flipped the seat in 2018, winning in a district long held by Republicans. She made history when she was sworn in at age 32, becoming the youngest Black woman to ever serve in the House.
