CNO says seven-day hiring cycle critical for recruitment

UF Health CNO Janice Walker, DHA, RN, relies on a seven-day recruitment cycle to hire qualified nursing candidates. AONL member Walker says Gainesville, Fla.-based UF Health should never lose qualified candidates because of a lack of timely follow-up. To make an offer in seven days, health systems need to build automated alerts flagging when a candidate has started interviewing and when the hiring deadline is approaching. A health system should have backup plans for when hiring managers are taking paid time off. Walker says in cases when health systems fail to follow-up with a candidate within seven days, they should have procedures in place to discover why they missed the deadline. Once candidates are hired, Walker prioritizes professional shared governance structures to retain them. (Becker’s Hospital Review article, 3/11/26)
