Clinicians set up home visits for patients afraid to seek care
Minnesota nurses and physicians started informal, underground networks to provide home care for immigrants too afraid to travel to hospitals and clinics during the Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation. Minnesota Democratic state Sen. Alice Mann, MD, urges health care workers nationwide to form networks to organize to provide home care. Since December, Minneapolis medical systems have reported cancellation and no-show rates of up to 60%. Meanwhile, St. John’s Community Health in Los Angeles provided medical care to approximately 2,000 immigrant families too afraid to leave home during an immigration raid after its no-show rates surpassed 30%. Health care workers say patients with diabetes and heart disease are missing blood sugar and blood thinner tests and the chronically ill are becoming sicker. (KFF News article, 3/8/26)
