CDC releases COVID-19, RSV death rates
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported respiratory syncytial virus was associated with 190,000 to 350,000 hospitalizations from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, and 10,000 to 23,000 deaths. During the same period, COVID-19 was linked to an estimated 290,000 to 450,000 hospitalizations and 34,000 to 53,000 deaths. Infants under six months and people over age 75 were affected disproportionately with COVID-19, with 286 hospitalizations per 100,000 people and 933 hospitalizations per 100,000 people, respectively. RSV similarly affected the oldest and youngest, with associated hospitalization rates of 1,117 cases per 100,000 people for babies under age one, followed by children aged 12 to 23 months with 770 cases per 100,000 people, and adults age 75 or older with 427 cases per 100,000.
