Chair File: Leadership Dialogue — Innovation, Outreach and Partnerships That Improve Community Health With Donna Lynne of Denver Health
To improve the health of individuals and communities, hospitals and health systems provide holistic care to patients and work to address all factors that affect their well-being.
In this episode, I am joined by Donna Lynne, CEO of Denver Health, an academic medical center that also serves as the primary safety-net health system in Colorado. Donna and I discuss how Denver Health’s team is intentional and strategic when working with local partners and offering a variety of healthcare services to the community.
At Denver Health, 47% of patients are on Medicaid, and about 15% are uninsured, Donna noted. Many patients are experiencing food and housing insecurity. The heath system’s strategic vision has evolved to include addressing the social drivers of health as a core pillar. “We not only provide a lot of those services ourselves, but we have a lot of partners in the community that we rely on … that very much support what we do,” Donna observed.
Denver Health is a 2026 recipient of the AHA Dick Davidson NOVA Award, recognized for its Housing Outreach, Partnerships and Engagement (HOPE) program that focuses on improving health outcomes for people experiencing homelessness. The HOPE team proactively identifies patients during hospital visits and helps create warm handoffs to partners with housing expertise, programs and community relationships to help patients take the next step.
I hope you find these conversations interesting and insightful. Look for them once a month as part of the Chair File in 2026.
