Pilot project aims to free nurses of documentation burden

AdventHealth, a system with facilities in Florida and Texas, is piloting the use of care team assistants (CTAs) with a goal of giving nurses more time to focus on patient needs. CTAs are trained to document patients’ care under a nurse’s supervision, freeing nurses of a time-consuming burden. According to AdventHealth, 73% of nurses in the hospitals that piloted the use of CTAs reported they were able to spend more time with patients. The company also reported a 12% improvement in staff responsiveness and 13% improvement in lab turn-around times. (Healthcare Purchasing News story, 8/20/19)
