AHA guide offers strategies to prepare for public health emergencies
An American Hospital Association guide provides hospitals with strategies to prepare for public health emergencies and disasters. The guide organizes strategies around the four S’s: staffing, supply, space and systems to protect patients, support teams and sustain critical operations during public health emergencies. The structured approach enables organizations to better anticipate and plan to accommodate large numbers of patients during and following a public health emergency. In addition, the guide provides actionable strategies to help teams maintain quality and continuity of care. The AHA produced the guide as part of the Convening Leaders for Emergency and Response initiative. (AHA News article, 1/27/26)
