AHRQ toolkit aims to prevent infections in long-term care facilities
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality launched a toolkit outlining four evidence-based strategies to decrease infection risks and maintain healthy skin among long-term care residents. The strategies are keeping skin clean and safe; reducing multidrug resistant organisms; using antibiotics wisely; and cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces. The toolkit contains interventions addressing clinical and cultural aspects of care, as well as case studies demonstrating infection risks and best practices and includes an implementation guide to integrate the toolkit into daily practice.
