CDC provides update on Cyclosporiasis cases
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a Health Alert Network advisory on the increasing number of cyclosporiasis cases. It received reports of 1,645 confirmed U.S. cases across 34 states and knows of more than 5,100 cases requiring further analysis. Of the 1,645 confirmed cases, 9% of people were (141) were hospitalized, and no one has died. The advisory contains recommendations for clinicians on how to diagnose and treat patients with cyclosporiasis, and for facilities on how to disinfect healthcare settings. The CDC, the Food and Drug Administration and state and local health departments are working to identify the illness’ cause. Because cyclosporiasis is often underdiagnosed and underreported, the actual total is likely higher than what has been reported, the CDC said. (CDC Health Alert Network advisory, 7/14/26)
