Survey instrument allows leaders to see emergency nurses’ safety perceptions

A survey instrument developed by researchers at Penn Medicine is helping healthcare leaders better understand how emergency nurses perceive their safety in the workplace, particularly regarding patient violence. The research highlights that underreporting remains a significant challenge, often driven by a culture that views violence, threats and verbal abuse as an expected part of the job. The tool measures factors that influence nurses' sense of safety, including leadership support, reporting processes, teamwork, communication and organizational response to violent incidents.
