Webinar to describe hospital’s virtual nursing for oncology care
The AONL-American Hospital Association Learning Community will host a webinar exploring how the nursing team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center implemented a virtual nursing program to better delivery oncology care on July 1 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET. The pilot program, implemented on an inpatient medical-surgical oncology unit at the New York City-based system, relied on experienced oncology nurses to provide virtual admissions support, patient education, clinical mentoring and interdisciplinary collaboration through a telehealth platform. The virtual nurses offered an additional layer of expert nursing surveillance and early monitoring while supporting front-line staff and improving workflow efficiency. The eight-week pilot saved bedside nurses 113 hours and 44 minutes without affecting the patient experience negatively. Participants should register in advance.
