Workflow disruption biggest barrier to AI adoption, survey finds

Workflow disruption is the biggest barrier to artificial intelligence adoption, with 59% of McKinsey survey respondents citing it as their top concern. The survey, based on responses from payers, clinical care organizations, health care services and technology firms from September to December 2025, found 80% of respondents are deploying AI compared with 25% during the same period in 2023. However, most are determining how to use it effectively. Hospitals are expanding AI use beyond administrative tasks, with 54% using it to improve clinical productivity. Most organizations are partnering with third-party vendors instead of developing the technology internally. Approximately 82% of respondents who have implemented AI say they expect a positive return on investment. (HealthLeaders Media article, 4/21/26)
