AONL Advocacy Day participants visit Capitol Hill

AONL held its annual Advocacy Day this week in Washington, D.C., with 290 nurse leaders from 41 states participating. They asked their legislators to co-sponsor the Save Healthcare Workers Act (S. 1600/H.R. 3178), and the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (S. 1874/H.R. 3593). AONL also asked legislators to support recognition of nursing as a professional degree. The Department of Education’s recent final rule excludes post-baccalaureate nursing degrees from the definition of “professional degrees” which significantly limits access to federal student loans. AONL urges nurse leaders to advocate from home by contacting their legislators about these issues.
