At least 18 nurses are running for Congress

Sixteen nurses are running for House seats, and two nurses are running for Senate seats in the midterm elections. The numbers include Rep. Marianette Miller-Meeks, MD, R-Iowa, who was an army nurse for six years before becoming a physician. Other incumbent nurses running for re-election are Reps. Lauren Underwood, MSN, RN, D-Ill., Sheri Biggs, DNP, RN, R-S.C., and Jen Kiggans, APRN, RN, R-Va.Healing Politics, an organization that recruits and trains nurses and midwives to run for elected office while building a culture of engagement within the profession, maintains communities are healthier when nurses are civilly engaged (MedPage Today article, 10/6/26)
