Resilience expert has tips for supporting employees’ mental health

Communicating clearly is the top action health care organizations can take to support the mental health of their employees, according to Regardt “Reggie” Ferreira, PhD, director of the Tulane University Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy, who recently spoke with HealthLeaders Media. In addition to traditional advice about self-care and talking to counselors when needed, Ferreira’s recommendations included tangible steps employers can take such as providing adequate protective equipment, transportation to and from work, and even housing for those concerned about infecting loved ones at home. “My advice is to take the situation day-by-day because it is so fluid.” (HealthLeaders Media story, 4/1/20)
