AHA resource highlights strategies for equitable maternal care

An American Hospital Association resource highlights strategies to foster equitable practices in maternal care at the patient and organizational level. The resource, based on an AHA-dialogue with hospital leaders on examining best practices for equitable maternity care, also describes how New York City Health + Hospitals and Providence Swedish Hospital in Renton, Wash., connect interested families with doulas, and how a University of Chicago Medicine program treats and manages postpartum hypertension. Separately, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported this week the U.S. infant mortality rate rose 2% in 2021 to 19,928. Infants of Black women had the highest mortality rate by race at 10.55 per 1,000 live births. (AHA News article, 9/12/23)
