AI can benefit nurses, NCSBN’s Benton says

Artificial intelligence can be used to better manage patients and adjust nurse workloads, reducing stress and burnout, according to David Benton, PhD, RGN, CEO of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. AI can perform routine tasks that currently add to nurses’ workloads, enabling them to focus on tasks only nurses can do, he said. Benton stressed AI should be a partner with nursing to deliver safe, effective and efficient health care. However, to reduce mistakes and biases, nurses need to be able to detect errors that can occur when AI systems use data sets with errors. (HealthLeaders Media article, 8/14/23)
