CDC expands access to COVID-19 shots for pregnant women
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expanded access to COVID shots for pregnant women, with its adult immunization schedule recommending shared clinical decision-making under the “pregnancy” column. Previously, the schedule said there was “no guidance/not applicable” for pregnancy. In May, Health and Human Services dropped the CDC recommendation that healthy children and pregnant women should receive routine COVID shots. Meanwhile, the CDC vaccine advisory committee said it would review the safety and efficacy of the childhood vaccine schedule, including when children receive shots and possible risks linked to common vaccine ingredients. Vaccine skeptics have falsely suggested that aluminum, an ingredient in vaccines, is associated with increased prevalence of autism and chronic conditions like allergies.
