CDC reduces COVID-19 isolation requirements

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week released updated guidance dropping the five-day isolation period for people diagnosed with COVID-19. Individuals may return to normal activities after testing positive for COVID-19 if symptoms are improving and if they have been fever free for 24 hours without using a fever-reducing medication. Once people return to normal activities, for the next five days, they should enhance hygiene practices, such as wearing a well-fitting mask and keeping their distance from others. Infected people especially should take precautions when they are around people over age 65 and those with weakened immune systems. In addition, the CDC recommends people over age 65 receive an updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine dose this spring. (CDC news release, 3/1/24)
