CMS explains strategy to close health equity data gaps

In a blog post, LaShawn McIver, MD, MPH, director of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Office of Minority Health, explains the agency’s plans to close health-equity-data gaps. McIver says the agency will collect new health equity elements, align standards, implement health equity scores and offer industry the tools and access to data needed to advance health equity. “Together, we will work toward a future where CMS, government agencies, industry organizations, individuals and other stakeholders have access to health equity data, can identify current disparities, and track progress toward achieving health equity for all individuals and communities that participate in CMS programs,” she writes.
