CNO discusses hospital's journey to eradicate disparities

Minneapolis-based Children's Minnesota has placed itself at the forefront of diversity, equity and inclusion, AONL member Caroline Njau, MBA, RN, recently told HealthLeaders Media. The chief nursing officer (CNO) and senior vice president of patient care services said the hospital has been working for more than five years to eradicate health disparities in the interests of both its patients and staff. An internship program helps recruit diverse candidates for nursing positions, but diversifying the workforce is about more than hiring, Njau said. “The things we do internally to create an inclusive culture that fosters that belonging are as important as it is to diversify the workforce.” (HealthLeaders Media article, 8/9/21)
