Charge nurse fellowship creates effective leaders

With input with bedside charge nurses, nurse leaders at the University of Florida Health Jacksonville developed a charge nurse fellowship. The November issue of Voice of Nursing Leadership discusses how leaders at the academic health organization in northeast Florida in 2015 developed charge nurse competencies after determining it needed to expand its charge nurse development programs to novice and experienced charge nurses. UF Health Jacksonville has graduated more than 200 charge nurses from inpatient and outpatient units, including those in intensive care, cardiac care, labor and delivery care, medical/surgical care and the emergency department, among others. The two-year retention rate is 85% among charge nurse fellowship graduates, compared with 75% of general nursing staff.
