Curriculum aims to reduce inequities in AI

A Nursing Outlook article discusses an artificial intelligence training program developed by nurse researchers that seeks to build skills to reduce bias and health care inequities. The Human-Centered Use of Multidisciplinary AI for Next-Gen Education and Research (HUMAINE) curriculum was informed by a comprehensive scoping review, training workshops and a research symposium. The curriculum focuses on structural inequities in algorithms contributing to health disparities. The nurse researchers intend for the curriculum to equip scientists with AI and machine language competencies allowing them to effectively address structural inequities and promote health equity. They incorporated the perspectives of clinicians, biostatisticians, engineers and policymakers. Separately, the National Academy of Medicine released a peer-reviewed publication on generative AI in health and medicine. (Nursing Outlook article, 5/2/25)
