Disch, Finis call for rethinking nursing productivity

In an article, two AONL members dissected the current understanding of nursing productivity. They proposed an alternative concept accounting for outcomes as well as inputs; capturing data across sites and over time; and considering productivity within an interprofessional framework. Joanne Disch, PhD, RN, professor ad honorem at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in Minneapolis, and Nanne Finis, MS, RN, chief nurse executive at UKG in Weston, Fla., analyzed the existing literature on their topic and interviewed 22 nationally known health care leaders with a broad range of perspectives. The authors detailed their findings and issued a call to action in the March/April issue of Nursing Economic$, which is now available online. (Nursing Economic$ article, March/April 2022)
