Editorial: DNP students should learn evidence-based practice, QI skills
Nursing schools should teach doctoral of nursing practice students evidence-based practice and quality improvement skills, rather than encouraging them to conduct small research studies, according to a Viewpoint article in the February issue of the American Journal of Nursing. The authors maintain evidence-based research and quality improvement skills will enable nurses with DNP degrees to achieve sustainable improvement in patient care and health care quality. Faculty should receive training in evidence-based research and quality improvement skills, they argue. The lead author published another article in the February issue about an evidence-based practice and quality improvement model to guide program evaluation, policy analysis and adapt evidence-based practice and quality improvement in practice.
