Educators Discuss Integrating AI in Nursing Education
Nursing educators should embrace artificial intelligence, competency-based education and simulation to build a diverse, inclusive and practice-ready workforce equipped to advance health equity and improve population health outcomes, a concept paper concludes. Published in Nursing Outlook, the article imagines a future where learners progress along personalized learning pathways by mastering competencies instead of following rigid timelines. This approach would enable more people from diverse communities and adult learners, working professionals and those with caregiving responsibilities to enter the nursing field. Educators would use AI to find student cohorts that have similar education paths and individualize education to the learners’ needs and strengths. They would use AI for problem-based learning, simulation of patient encounters, personalized and interactive learning experiences, communication and assessment skills.
