Free toolkit offers managers strategies to reduce HAIs
A free toolkit contains resources to help clinical and administrative managers prevent health care-associated infections, according to an article in the American Journal of Infection Control. Researchers developed the SMART Toolkit following a five-year Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality-study focused on central line-associated bloodstream infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Health care leaders can use the toolkit to implement six key management practices to improve HAI outcomes. The toolkit includes best practices, ready-to-use downloadable resources and data-informed guidance. The authors say the use of management practices complementing and reinforcing best practices at the bedside can improve patient safety, lower health care costs and increase job satisfaction for health care providers.
