HHS follows vaccine committee’s flu, RSV recommendations

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. adopted the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ recommendations for respiratory syncytial virus and seasonal influenza vaccinations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention committee recommends infants under eight months born during or entering their first RSV season receive one vaccine dose to help prevent the infection, which is contagious and causes serious health concerns, especially for infants and young children. In addition, ACIP recommends annual flu vaccines for children under 18, pregnant women and adults. Separately, the Food and Drug Administration may not extend emergency use authorization of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for young children this fall, making Moderna’s vaccine the only one available to fill supply gaps.
