Hospital cares for Afghan refugees

An article in the October issue of Nurse Leader describes how Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health provided care to Afghan refugees who were staying at a nearby military training facility. The hospital relied on collaboration, compassion and strong leadership to provide high-quality, holistic care and to create a positive care environment. Leaders identified what mattered most to patients, families, hospital team members and military personnel to promote culturally relevant care while meeting medical and nursing needs. Over six months, Afghan refugees visited the emergency department 100 times, with 90 patients requiring inpatient admissions.
