House passes budget bill

On May 22, the House passed the fiscal year 2025 budget bill, which contains significant changes and cuts to Medicaid. The bill passed 215-214 without any Democrat support. Two Republicans opposed the legislation. It moves to the Senate to face what stakeholders expect to be an intense battle over achieving key parts of the Trump administration’s policy agenda. Earlier this week, the American Hospital Association held a Capitol Hill briefing featuring hospital leaders who highlighted how Medicaid cuts would negatively affect the patients and communities their hospitals serve. In a statement AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack noted, “Our hospitals and health systems have significant concerns regarding the harmful Medicaid and Health Insurance Marketplace provisions currently included in the bill. The sheer magnitude of the level of reductions to the Medicaid program alone will impact all patients, not just Medicaid beneficiaries, in every community across the nation.”
