Inova launches nurse-led implementation science program

Nurse leaders at Inova Health System in Falls Church, Va., used implementation science to integrate evidence into practice to improve clinical care. Published in the December issue of the American Journal of Nursing, the leaders describe how they developed a cohort of nurse IS specialists to improve the dissemination and sustainability of evidence-based projects completed by their EBP fellows. They redesigned Inova’s shared governance model to include more nurses at all leadership levels and added an advisory council to direct all IS projects and programming. The authors note an IS infrastructure may improve nurse retention and increase interdisciplinary collaboration. AONL members Kathleen Russell-Babin, PhD, RN, vice president of professional practice, and Paula Graling, DNP, RN, vice president of nursing, perioperative services, are among the authors.
