Legislation would grant CRNAs autonomy

A recent bipartisan bill would no longer require certified registered nurse anesthetists to practice under physician supervision under Medicare Part A conditions of participation. The Save America’s Rural Hospitals Act (H.R. 833), introduced in February 2023 by Reps. Sam Graves, R-Mo., and Jared Huffman, D-Calif., would make permanent health care flexibilities that were introduced during the COVID-19 public health emergency. CRNAs often serve as the only anesthesia provider in rural hospitals. (HealthLeaders Media article, 2/24/23)
