Nursing homes fear Supreme Court immigration ruling will reduce staffing levels

The Supreme Court’s decision to end temporary protected status for Haitian and Syrian immigrants likely will reduce staffing levels at nursing homes and other senior care providers, according to nursing home and provider groups. They say Haitian and Syrian individuals comprise 8% or more of the caregiving workforce in some communities. These workers could lose their jobs and employers do not have replacements available to fill their roles, the groups say. The Haitian Temporary Protected workforce includes around 13,000 nursing assistants and 8,000 caregivers, says the Americans for Immigrant Justice. The highest concentrations of affected health workers reside in South Florida, Massachusetts and New York. (Axios article, 6/29/26)
