Podcast details how mobile health simulation saves lives in rural Iowa
An American Hospital Association podcast details how a mobile clinical education program at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, Iowa City, is delivering high-impact simulation training to rural hospitals and emergency medical service teams to prepare them for health emergencies. Three trucks transport the simulation system to EMS and emergency personnel at rural hospitals, offering training on simulated patients, including pediatric trauma, obstetric emergencies and rare airway procedures. Emergency personnel can test new protocols and refine the care they provide to improve patient safety outcomes in rural areas, where 43% of Iowans live. The Wellmark Foundation recently gave the education program $5 million to provide two trainings every year for five years for rural and mixed urban-rural counties.
