Rutgers telehealth program prepares students for virtual nursing
Rutgers School of Nursing will introduce virtual care training into undergraduate nursing education through a partnership with a provider of artificial intelligence-enabled connected care services. More than half of U.S. nursing schools do not offer a telehealth curriculum for undergraduates, despite 88% of hospitals piloting or implementing inpatient virtual care. Rutgers nursing labs in Newark and New Brunswick will receive wall-mounted technology systems equipped with high-zoom cameras, speakers, microphones, infrared lights and video monitors. Rutgers is developing coursework covering virtual communication, patient engagement, data privacy and ethics. Students also will receive training in technology operations, AI-assisted clinical tools, healthcare leadership, mentoring and quality improvement. In addition, the school is developing a virtual nursing certificate program for practicing nurses. (Newswise news release, 6/22/26)
