Study: Prioritizing nurse wellness initiatives improves retention
A quality improvement project found a simple, low-cost wellness initiative could contribute to decreased burnout and increase retention among new nurses. The researchers integrated wellness sessions into a Vizient and American Association of Colleges of Nursing residency program. The 23 participants wrote in a journal, learned the Emotional Freedom Technique to reduce stress and received nutrition education. Before the program 32% of participants said they frequently thought about quitting their job, and 45% considered leaving nursing, but after the wellness sessions, the percentages fell to 28% in both categories. Participants also demonstrated improvements in teamwork, relationship building and camaraderie. (Clinical Advisor article, 10/20/25)
