Three more states extend Medicaid postpartum coverage

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services earlier this week approved in Hawaii, Maryland and Ohio the extension of Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage for 12 months after pregnancy. Roughly 34,000 people are now eligible for essential care for a full year after pregnancy. They join 18 other states and Washington, D.C., in choosing to extend coverage under the American Rescue Plan Act. (HHS news release, 8/16/22)
