University starts nursing and engineering innovation center

The University of Connecticut in Mansfield is launching a Nursing and Engineering Innovation Center to combine nurses’ problem-solving, innovative nature with engineers’ technological expertise. One of the first of its kind in the United States, the center will focus on research, education, community engagement and technology transfer to create ideas and inventions to improve patients’ lives. Nurses will ensure designs are user-friendly and meet health care needs. The center’s first phase, expected to take two to three years, will include the development of joint educational programs for students and seed grants for collaborative research among faculty. The second phase will create a shared state-of-the-art research and teaching facility. (HealthLeaders Media article, 9/28/23)
