Virtual nursing reduces turnover

AdventHealth Fish Memorial in Orange City, Fla., reduced turnover from 30% to 9% by using virtual nurses. The hospital also eliminated the need for travel nurses, according to AONL member and CNO Michele Johnson, MSN, RN, who started the program to reduce burnout and address workforce shortages. Virtual nurses assist the primary staff by conducting admissions, providing virtual observation, assisting novice nurses and assisting with patient education. St. Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, Mo., started using virtual nursing in 2019 to address staffing issues. Virtual nursing has enabled some nurses at St. Luke’s to extend their careers.
