CDC cautions Ebola could resemble 2014-2016 outbreak without interventions
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that without urgent preventive measures, the Ebola outbreak centered in the Democratic Republic of Congo will surpass 20,000 cases and 4,000 deaths within three months. The cases and deaths would mostly occur in the outbreak region, according to the model. The CDC said if large scale and sustained public health measures are not implemented, the current outbreak could resemble the 2014-2016 West Africa Ebola virus disease outbreak, which caused 28,000 infections and more than 11,000 deaths. The CDC said sick people should remain isolated. The overall risk to people in the U.S. remains low, the agency said. (ABC News article, 6/5/26)
