Medical associations disagree with recent CDC flu vaccine recommendation
A recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s overhauled Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for people to receive only single-dose seasonal influenza vaccines without thimerosal elicited pushback from mainstream scientists, public health experts and major medical associations. Health and Human Services Department Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. recently removed all previous 17 ACIP members. The recommendation could end the use of a robustly studied preservative in flu shots, limiting access to vaccinations. The American Medical Association, the American Colleges of Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians urged insurers, hospitals and public health agencies to continue to make the vaccines available and free. The American Academy of Pediatrics said it would no longer participate in ACIP meetings. (MedPage Today article, 6/26/25)
