AHA podcast discusses Rural Health Transformation Program
In an American Hospital Association podcast, Maya Sandalow, associate director of the health program at the Bipartisan Policy Center discusses how states are using the Rural Health Transformation Fund to invest in rural hospitals, telehealth and workforce development. She says states are using the $50 billion in available funds to build the workforce pipeline, including investing in healthcare training in high schools. States also are joining interstate licensure compacts to make it easier for providers to practice in multiple states. Others are proposing to expand scope of practice for nurse practitioners. In addition, states are increasing access to telehealth and remote patient monitoring. Sandalow also highlighted the need for permanent Medicare support for telehealth services.
