CNOs offer advice on measuring AI, virtual nursing gains
Nurse leaders implementing artificial intelligence and virtual nursing should develop people-focused metrics and focus on the nursing workforce pre- and post-adoption, said three AONL members. Laura Rashleger, DNP, RN, vice president nursing operations and virtual nursing at Advocate Health in Charlotte, N.C.; Yuri Mykoo, MBA, RN, senior vice president and CNO at Tampa General Hospital in Florida; and Christine Gall, DrPH, RN, CNO at Collette Health in Noblesville, Ind., recommend measuring retention and turnover, readmissions, length of stay, throughput and nurse-sensitive indicators. They said decreased documentation time and discharge time measure productivity effectively. Appropriate people-focused metrics include patient safety, experience and outcomes. Separately, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Leadership Alliance emphasizes transparency and training in adopting AI in health care. (HealthLeaders Media article, 9/24/25)
