Communication, flexibility needed to retain Gen Z nurses

In light of a Press Ganey report finding 24% of Gen Z nurses left the workforce in 2024, AONL member and Press Ganey CNO Jeff Doucette, DNP, RN, says nursing leaders should increase communication and provide flexibility to retain the youngest nurses. The report, based on feedback from more than 500,000 RNs, advanced practice providers and other clinical staff nationwide, finds Gen Z nurses are leaving because they believe leaders are not creating environments where their well-being is supported and they can do their best work. Doucette says CNOs should offer flexible schedules and provide clear routes to career pathways. (HealthLeaders Media article, 7/21/25)
