Nurse burnout predicts some acute care medication errors

In a study of staff nurses at acute care Alabama hospitals, nurse burnout significantly predicted self-reported medication administration errors (MAEs). Data were collected via survey from July 2018 through January 2019 using the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, according to the study’s authors, writing in the January/February 2021 issue of the Journal for Healthcare Quality. Data on nurses experiencing each burnout dimension in the inventory showed burnout to be a statistically significant predictor of self-reported MAEs.
