Nearly 60% of mothers miss postpartum care

A report by Cedar Gate Technologies found nearly 57% of mothers did not attend a postpartum follow-up visit three to eight weeks after giving birth. The rate was higher for younger mothers, with nearly 61% of mothers aged 20 to 24 not attending follow-up appointments, revealing urgent equity gaps in U.S. maternal health. The findings underscore the need for better care coordination, patient outreach and data-driven solutions to improve maternal health outcomes. The Greenwich, Conn.-based care technology and services company analyzed a national database of millions of commercially insured patients from July 2022 to June 2023. Previous estimates from the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology suggested nearly 40% of women did not attend postpartum visits. (Cedar Gate news release, 7/29/25)
